Cost of tourist visa to Bolivia
by: Anonymous

The cost of the tourist visa to Bolivia depends on the agreements Bolivia has with your country. For example, for some countries it is free. For some it is about $30. For Americans it is $135.00. You would have to contact a Bolivian consulate or the Bolivian Immigration to know exactly for Oman.

Bolivia tourist visa for citizens of Oman
by: Anonymous

According to the official Bolivian government immigration website (go to http://www.migracion.gob.bo, then click on TRAMITES Y REQUISITOS, then on PARA EXTRANJEROS, then on POR NACIONALIDAD and choose Oman ), it says:

-----

-----

So, IF there is no Bolivian consulate in Oman, then you will be issued the tourist visa at the border or airport when you arrive.

This is only for tourist visas.

TO GET YOUR TOURIST VISA, HERE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS (found on the same page of their website):

3. Exhibir vacuna contra la fiebre amarilla.
4. Exhibir pasajes de ida y vuelta o presentar itinerario de viaje.
5. Acreditar domicilio en Bolivia.
6. Reserva de Hotel.
7. Tiempo de estadía 30 días.

Visa problems - Bolivia - UK

by Denise
(UK)

I'm from the UK & my boyfriend is Bolivian.
He is currently in Bolivia & trying to return to UK to be with me.

The requirements are a lot stricter now with regards to visas & he's finding it difficult at the moment which is upsetting for both of us.

What i would like to know is, as we intend to get married anyway, if i was to marry him in Bolivia, can he then follow me to UK as he will be married to a British National?

Thanks
by: Anonymous

Thank you for your advice.

My boyfriend is a dentist but could not practice in the UK but has worked here as a dental assistant for approx 10 years until his visa expired last Dec. Then he decided to return home to see his family & update his skills ready to return to practice as a dentist here as his papers had arrived allowing him to do so.

We thought that as he had a profession & he spoke good english, it would not be a problem. How wrong were we?

I have since been to Bolivia to visit him as that's tha only way we can see each other & it looks as though i will undertaking that long journey again this year.

I have my own house & i earn well over the required £18,600. However, neither of us have that much savings.

I've since done more research & it seems that even trying to be together long term in another country isn't an option either.

I do wonder how we are meant to be together. It seems that the Fiance Visa could be our only option & we would be doing it for the right reasons as we are 100% sure that we want to be together. I'm 15 years older than my boyfried & have since found out that there could be a potential problem with the age gap with the FV now too.

It doesn't matter where you get married
by: anon

hi there

Sorry to hear that you guys are separated by visa restrictions.

However, this is not a question for a Bolivia forum - it is a question for the UK Borders Agency and the UK visa process.

You should google "UK spousal visa changes" or something like that.

In order to bring a foreign spouse to the UK you need to have a certain salary and/ or have a large pile of cash in the bank. Your partner will also need to speak good English, have no criminal record and possibly pass the citizenship test.

The UK offers a fiancee visa, so that might be an option for you guys too.

Do NOT get married in Bolivia thinking that this will allow you the automatic right to bring him back to the UK, as unfortunately it will not.

If you guys want to live together in the UK then it makes sense to get married in the UK, unless there are really strong reasons to get married in Bolivia.

Getting married in Bolivia is a paperwork nightmare (I've done it) and should only be done for the right reasons.

Good luck and sorry you are in this position - I think the attitude of the UK govt regarding this issue is disgraceful and I believe they will be challenged in the European courts for this.

Take into a count that you need also requirements to marry in Bolivia, you have to enter on a special purpose visa, and also have your documents translated and authenticated by bolivian embassy in UK. Not difficult, only you need these before you marry in Bolivia.

Visa a Bolivia para Esposo Kuwaiti?

by Dana Lozano

There is no Bolivia consulate in Singapore or anywhere near in South East Asia. We are planning to fly to Peru first and then enter Bolivia via the road.

What do you suggest us to do to get a visa for my Chinese wife?

French don't need a visa, Chinese must obtain one prior to arrival
by: Anonymous

According to the Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website France is in Group I (citizens of France do not require a visa to enter Bolivia).

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d43.htm

According to the same website, China is in Group III (citizens of China must obtain a visa prior to arrival).

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d49.htm

They do not take into account which country you are coming from (in your case, Singapore). What they base the visa on, is the country of your passport.

Read this for what to do if there is no consulate of Bolivia in your country.

Coming to Bolivia
by: Jonny Algarañaz

You can do both extent you visa once you are here and also apply for one before coming here. Here in Bolivia we don't have a Canadian embassy, but can contact the one in Lima, Peru. There's an embassy from your country in that city. Ithink you sould contact them before coming here. Regarding the typt of visa you can apply for either the student or the tourist one. Many canadians come to Bolivia, especially to Santa Cruz, which is the largest city in Bolivia.

I hope this was helpful. My name is Jonny Algarañaz. I live in Santa Cruz.

Good bye.

Bolivia requires Israeli tourists to apply for visa for first time since 1972

1 September 2014 - The Bolivian government has declared that as of yesterday, all Israeli citizens wishing to travel into Bolivia must obtain a tourist visa from a Bolivian consulate prior to arrival.

As of yesterday, all Israeli citizens will need a visa to enter Bolivia. The Bolivian government has revoked the agreement for free entry signed with Israel in 1972. This was done in response to the offensive launched against Gaza by Israel in the past few weeks. The measure was announced in July and became applicable yesterday. President Morales stated Bolivia considers Israel a "terrorist state" due to its attack on Palestinian territory, indicating that it does not respect the United Nations Declaration nor the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In this manner, citizens of Israel will no longer be included in the Group 1 visa classification (no tourist visa needed to enter Bolivia) and have been transferred to Group 3, meaning they must apply for a tourist visa which will be reviewed by Bolivian Immigration authorities.

"Moving them to Group 3 means (...) that we are declaring the (Israeli) state a terrorist state," aid Morales one month ago.

As of yesterday, citizens of Israel who wish to travel to Bolivia must apply for a visa at Bolivian consulates overeas and Bolivian Immigration authorities will decide whether a visa will be issued or not.

According to Bolivian Immigration authorities, between 10,000 and 12,000 Israeli tourists visit Bolivia each year.

Hi, if you wanna come to Bolivia, you will need first to know if you need a visa. I don't know if that will be complicated. I am actually from Bolivia, but these days I am in London, and to get the uk visa was a nightmare for me. But I think it is the reverse to go to Bolivia.I can assure you that you can start a business easily, just saying Bolivia is the cheapest country in south America the minimum salary is around 180 pounds per month, it is quite cheap if u are coming from a country where the currency in higher. Don't know how is that in Bangladesh. I can give you more advice in case you want to, this is my name in skype'camilamarianaveraolivera' or email > cami_mariana_vera_olivera_98@hotmail.es

China citizens don't need a visa any more
by: Anonymous

I heard that the Bolivian government recently changed immigration law and citizens of China no longer need a tourist visa to enter Bolivia. Even if you are entering Bolivia from another country, whether you need a visa or not depends on the country of your PASSPORT, not the country you are coming from. So you can contact the immigration service in Bolivia yourself and ask them, just to be sure.

Consulate of Paraguay in Puerto Iguazú Argentina
by: Bella

I may have found your answer! There is a Consulate of Paraguay in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina here:

Puerto Iguazú - Consulado de Paraguay
Address: Avenida Cordoba Nº 370
City: Puerto Iguazú
Phone Local: (03757) 424.230

I found this information here:

The same information can be found here:
http://www.mrecic.gov.ar/portal/guia-dip/of-consulares/consulado.php?pais=20

So I guess it must be true. Neither site has an email address though.

P.S. This is the information for Paraguay Immigration just in case:

Paraguay
by: don Estuardo

I wish there were an equivalent website for Paraguay, a country that provides little or no help in getting information about visas and where to obtain them.

I will fly straight from Auckland to Puerto Iguazu on Lan Chile. This is an expensive place to stay so I don't want to dawdle. From Aguazu I want to travel overland to Bolivia via Paraguay which requires a visa that be got from a consulate or Embassy. I know there is a Paraguayan Consulate in Aguazu and I have its e-mail address. They do NOT reply.

Does anyone out there have any information about getting a visa in Puerto Aguazu?

Thank you,

bolivia visas for new zealand citizens
by: BoliviaBella

According to the Bolivian Foreign Affairs website citizens of New Zealand (Nueva Zelandia) are in Group 1 and do not need a visa to enter Bolivia, as you can see here.

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d43.htm

As to the Yellow Fever vaccine, Biministerial Resolution 01/2007 states that everyone over 12 months of age must have a yellow fever vaccination card or immunization certificate to Bolivia. However, the document Vacuna Contra la Fiebre Amarilla, found on the same website states that authorities from the Ministry of Health and Sports passed another Ministerial Resolution 0028 dated 21 January 2009, whereby the yellow fever shot will be required exclusively of foreigners who will be traveling to zones at risk of yellow fever (there's a list of those zones) and they must have the yellow fever vaccine a minimum of 10 days prior to entering Bolivia.

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d297.pdf

Have an awesome trip and when you're done be sure to visit us again and share your travel story, si?

Visiting Bolivia - Dual Citizen Italian /American
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I am flying from New York to La Paz for 2 weeks vacation and I saw that US citizens need to pay $135 tourist fee and need to visit the consulate ahead of time. I have 2 passports Italian and American but I live in NY so my return flight is to the USA. Since Italians don't need a visa and don't need to pay the tourist fee, can I enter Bolivia with my Italian passport so I don't pay? Will I have problems at the airport in La Paz because my return flight is to the USA and I have to show my US passport as well?

Thank you

If you want to visit Bolivia as tourist, you don´t need to get visa in advance, you can get it upon arrival in the airport.

If you want to apply for residence in Bolivia, then you need the special purpose visa, you can get it in any bolivian embassy or consular agency in the world.

You DO need a visa, but it will be issued upon arrival
by: Anonymous

Citizens of MYANMAR are in Group 2 visa group. This means that you do need a tourist visa, but it will be issued to you upon arrival.

You can see that Myanmar is in group 2 on this document which is published by the Bolivian Immigration Service, so this information is directly from immigration authorities in Bolivia.

http://www.migracion.gob.bo/web/upload/preguntas.pdf

See page 7 and you will find Myanmar listed in Group II (group 2). You will get visa upon arrival.

Bolivia tourist visa requirements for Singapore citizens?

by Jess

I've heard visas can be issued overland when travelling into Bolivia but can it be issued at the airports as well? I'm planning to fly into La Paz. I'm only planning to pop up Bolivia to see the salt flats in Uyuni.

I know Singapore is part of group II countries which needs visas but I'm not too sure what sort of documentation I should have with me when I head over. Do I need vaccinations declaration (if so, which)? Do I need bank statements? The only document I could find thus far is in Spanish and I don't understand it at all.

Cheers

visa requirements depend on where you are from
by: Anonymous

The visa requirements vary depending on what country you are from. Because they are established based on the international treaties that Bolivia has with different countries, and these are not all the same.

Therefore, what may work for an American or German or Japanese person, for example, may not work for you. That's why you need to know what visa GROUP you are in first.

Thailand is apparently in Group 2 - people who DO need a tourist visa but DON'T need to get it before hand. You can get it at the border (according to the government website here):

be sure your visa paperwork is correct
by: Shay

You can get a tourist visa once you arrive in Bolivia but you should have ALL of your paperwork ready with correct payment in perfect clean bills ($135.00). You can print out the application from the Bolivian Consulate website and all of the requirements are listed there as well.

My family of 6 visited Bolivia in '09 and this is what we did. It took about an hour for them to process (but, for 1 would take less I'm sure). We now live in Bolivia and the process for obtaining a objeto determinado visa took us several months and had to be done before entering the country. Requirements change frequently.

Romanian citizen needs tourist visa for Bolivia

by Anca Dudau
(Denmark/Romania)

Do I need to apply for visa in advance or can I get visa upon arrival? And if I go for the first option, for how long can it be prolonged if I enter the country later than planned.

Does anyone know an official website where I can find the requirements for Romanian citizens?

To apply for visa in Denmark (Where I live), the Embassy requires also the yellow fever vaccine (which I have done, but it costs a lot to translated it certified - and does it need to be Government authorized or just professional agency authorized)?

Copy of yellow fever vaccination certificate.
This certification must be translated into Spanish and the passenger must hold a copy of both Certificate and translation, to be submitted before Bolivian Immigration Authorities. (Take note that this requisite applies ONLY to the following Provinces: Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Beni, Pando, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Tarija).

I also need hotel reservation and transportation tickets - as I will be travelling for a whole year, it's very hard to approximate when I will be in Bolivia - anyone has a solution for that?

"3. Copy of the hotel reservation or invitation letter from Bolivian friends or relatives indicating the host address. Letter where applicable. For more information please refer to the WEB site of the Vice-Ministry of Tourism or. Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worships www.rree.gov.bo ; link "Servicios Consulares".
4. Round trip ticket and/or copy of travel itinerary."

Bolivia visa for Indonesian Citizen ( Group 3)

Hi, We are Indonesian citizens who currently reside in Australia and are holding Australia Permanent Residency visas. We were just wondering what to process to obtain Bolivia visa. It seems from the previous publication Indonesia belongs to Group 3. Other people mentioned that citizen from group 3 countries will have have to send their visa application to National Migration Office in Bolivia. Is this correct? We have heard a lot people wait for a long time for their visa and had to cancel their trip to Bolivia because of this. Any advice would be appreciated?

Thanks in advance

tourist visa

everyone entering Bolivia must obtain a tourist visa.
you can obtain one at the port of entry. it is $130.00 paid in cash only. The tourist visa is for 3 months only per calander year. If you stay longer you will be charged fines at the airport when you leave Bolivia. If you plan on staying longer you have to apply for a special purpose visa NOT a tourist visa. The special purpose visa you will have to appy at the Bolivian consolute in your country prior to your travel..... NOT at the airport.

Bolivia tourist visa for Nigerian citizen
by: Anonymous

Whether or not you will need a tourist visa depends on what country you are from. Since you are a Nigerian citizen with a Nigerian passport you'll be applying for the visa as a Nigerian.

Some countries are required to request the tourist visa prior to arrival, some are given the visa at the airport in Bolivia when they arrive, and some don't need a tourist visa at all. It just depends on which treaties have been signed between countries.

Normally Bolivia issues a tourist visa for only 90 days maximum per year. If you were to remain in the country longer, you'd have to apply for residency, so plan on no more than 90 days.

You need to contact the nearest Bolivian consulate to request a tourist visa (you can use a Bolivian consulate in Qatar, if there is one, or any nearby country).

Check www.embassiesabroad.com to see where the nearest one is to you.

Normally you'll be required to present a letter of intention, your passport, photos, proof of income, and (if you plan to spend any time in Eastern tropical Bolivia) a yellow fever shot.

Bolivia visa for citizens of Cameroon
by: Anonymous

According to the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) website, citizens of Cameroon (Camerún) do need a tourist visa, but don't have to get it prior to arrival. This means you'd probably be given the visa upon arrival at the border or airport.

UK Citizen applying for a residency visa

by Paul
(Southampton)

Hello everyone. My name is Paul and I am from the UK. I have recently discovered this wonderful website.

I have looked through the forum and can not see a more recent answer to a few questions I have concerning apply for a residency visa.

My girlfriend is from Sucre and has recently returned to Bolivia after living with me in the UK for 6 months.

For the next stage of our relationship I want to go out to live with her for the next year while she finishes University.

I have spent 6 months previous in Sucre on a tourist visa and a student visa and I am now researching the temporary resident visa route. I know before I arrive in Bolivia I need to apply for a specific purpose visa. This is where my confusion starts.

I am not sure which one to apply for as there seems to be 3 different types. A filming one, a marriage one and a working one. Can someone please shed some light on which one I need to apply for. Also it says I need a report from the British police. As far as I know the police here only have a record of a citizen if they have a criminal record. So if there are any other British citizens that have gone through this process can you kindly advise me.

My last question for now is once in Bolivia how much roughly and I looking at with the visa/lawyers and medical checks? Foreign friends already in Sucre have quoted anywhere between $500-$900.

Thanks kindly in advance.

Paul

Residence Visa
by: Anonymous

Hi Paul,
According to recent inmigration laws in Bolivia, as a UK citizen you are not going to need Special Purpose Visa (visa de objeto determinado) anymore.
You can enter the country and get the tourist visa upon arrival at the airport, later apply for your residence in Sucre.
There are a few types of residence visas, like bussines/work visa, family visa, retirement visa... depends on which one you apply the visa costs 130 $ or 300$, besides that you are going to expend for medical examination 65$ notary fees, certifications and others 100$.
Good luck

working visa
by: Anonymous

Hello.
well it is obvious to apply for the working visa.do you think that you will be able to find a job there while you are there?
the Law thing in Bolivia is very very slow..... so be prepare to wait for everything you do...
At the moment things in Bolivia are just as expensive as here... except the transport which is very cheap.
so, if you where to have a couple of thousands pounds with you, that would be fine depending of the length of time you intent to be there.
You will need about say; £150 per month to pay rent. electricity and water after that food it is up to you how much you expend.
If you live with your friend that would be cheaper still...
Any way I have just come back from La Paz and I found things are expensive, well not every thing of-course
good luck with your plans
Regards.

Citizens of Nicaragua do need a tourist visa to enter Bolivia
by: Anonymous

You need both. You have to have a passport to travel overseas AND are going to need the visa either way. Nicaragua is one of the countries in Group II. Citizens of Nicaragua do need a tourist visa but are not required to get it beforehand. You will be issued your tourist visa upon arrival at the airport. Bring cash and be sure your passport is valid for a minimum of 6 months as of the date you enter Bolivia.

New zealander already in Bolivia wanting to stay longer than 30 days

I am a new zealander and have been stamped 30 days in my passport on arrival here. I am hoping to stay longer than this as I am studying Spanish in Sucre. I will then be travelling around Bolivia, going over the 30 days. Do I need to get another visa, if so how? Or can I just pay late fees, 20 bolivianos per day. I will only be an additional ten or so days. I don't want to get in trouble by police or immigration if stopped to show documents at any stage after the 30 days. Thanks

prolongation of visa
by: Nele

Hi,

I recommend you just call the local migration office. Most probably they can give you a prolongation of your visa, which is free or almost free. It depends on your nationality, but most nationalities do have a right of at least one prolongation.

If you stay in the country longer then your visa date, you will indeed pay 20 Bs per day, but apart from the money and administrative time it takes at the border, this doesn't have any long term implications, you won't be treated as an illegal who can't get back to the country or something like that.

You might get in that kind of trouble if you are here more then 180 days a year, but I understand this is not the case.

Kind greetings,

Nele Marien

Since New Zealanders do not need a travel visa to enter Bolivia (you are in Group 1*), but since your passport was stamped for only 30 days permission in Bolivia, you MIGHT be able to go to Immigration and ask for a 30-day extension.

confused!!!! very confused!!! and traveling this saturday HELP please!!!

by gabriela
(texas, USA)

im ecuadorian, my husband is bolivian , our four year old is a USA born citizen.... we r traveling to bolivia next saturday, and i just found out our son needs a visa, various problems here.. my husband is in mexico away in business(he is coming back friday night in time for our trip), so i cant go and request a visa at the bolivian consulate , as BOTH parents must be present... my son's USA passport expires on oct.2010, im not sure how the six months minimum are counted, if its by months (starting may) we r ok, if its date to date, we only have 5 months... neither my son, or myself have yellow fever shot... so, i've been reading, and i know i can get the visa for him at the airport.. or so i think... can i???

... next option, im an ecuadorian citizen , and thru me, my son holds dual citizenship, he has is national identification card (DIN, in spanish) and by the mercosur treaty as an ecuadorian, im allow to travel to bolivia only with the DIN card... at least this is what it says on many websites, but neither the bolivian or ecuadorian websites are specific about it...

so, to sum it up... how are the months counted in the passport? (i want to know if i can use my son's USA passport, and just get the visa at the airport).... can we (my son and i) as ecuadorian citizens (we r in group one for the visa) travel to bolivia with only our national identification cards? no passport needed?

thank you so much for ur help.... i will be calling the consulate tomorrow, but even them are sometimes confused with their policies....

Call the Bolivian Consulate in Washinton DC
by: Anonymous

Since you are traveling in just a few days your best bet is probably to call the Bolivian Consulate in Washington D.C. where they are very knowledgeable and sometimes more up to date about visa questions than other Bolivian consulates in the US.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the passport has to be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date on which travel begins. They will know the answer to this.

Be sure to mention that his father is Bolivian and will be traveling with the child. Mentioning this is important.

Also mention that the child has Ecuadorian citizenship and ask them if they think it would be best for your son to travel on his Ecuadorian passport to Bolivia. However, also ask them if he travels on his Ecuadorian passport to Bolivia, which passport should he use to return to the US. The Ecuadorian passport or the US passport.

Also ask them if it would be possible to get the yellow fever shot upon arrival. We've heard some tourists are administered the shot at the border before entering, but this has usually been at road borders between Chile and Peru. Not sure if you could get it at the airport upon arriving in Bolivia, but it would be a good idea to ask.

CONSULADO GENERAL DE BOLIVIA
en Washington DC
4420 Connecticut Avenue Nw Suite # 2
Washington, D.C. 20008
Teléfonos: (202) 232 4827 / 28
Fax: (202) 232 8017
Website: www.bolivia-usa.org

As you can see, this is why the information on our visa page, although it is as updated as possible, can apply differently to each individual. Because every person has a distinct passport and citizenship situation. I think the consulate in DC is your best option for information.

DJ and Jane, thank you very much for the confirmation! I am from Group II as well, and I was worried I may not obtain my tourist visa in time before my travels due to all the document-requirements requested by the Bolivian Embassy. Was thinking I may have to give the Salt Lakes a miss! At least now I know there is an alternative to obtain it at the Peru-Bolivia border if all else fails! Many thanks!

Updated info
by: DJ

Just wanted to post about our experience in case there are others in a similar situation in the future. Like Jane mentioned, it was really easy to get the visa upon arrival at the airport (we flew into La Paz). Citizens of Group II countries pay 360 Bs (for some reason they only accept bolivianos, but that is the equivalent of US$52 right now). Since we didn't have bolivianos on hand, we were allowed to go into the terminal area to either exchange money or use the ATM. All in all, very easy. And definitely much easier than trying to get the visa in advance (the consulate asks for a variety of documents; although if you do get it in advance, it is free for Group II countries.) At the airport they didn't ask for any documents, not even a completed visa application form or photo (even though we had all those things with us). All we needed was our passports and the cash. We traveled to Bolivia in early Dec. 2012.

Visa for Singaporeans
by: Jane

Well I went to Bolivia by getting a visa twice on arrival- this was at la Paz airport (30 sep 2012) and border btw Peru and Bolivia ( 29 oct 2012). Paid in bolivianos 330 equivalent of US $52. Afraid u must give it in bolivianos. There is a money changer at rhe aiport but we went in at the early hours of the morning so a friend brought the money to us. We tried changing in the US - most banks required at least a week or more. It was considered "rare" currency. But none of the banks were able to get it. As the visa issued is only for single entry, after Peru had to re enter at the border town and again had no problem getting the visa at the same rate.

I hope u have an enjoyable trip.

Singapore (Singapur in Spanish) is in Group 2. You need a visa, but it will be issued to you upon arrival at the airport. You can see the Bolivian government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website here. Why don't you print out this page and carry it with you. At least that way, when you arrive you can show the immigration officials that the official government page says that.

You can get a Visa at the airport.
by: Henry Hurt.

One option that I highly recommend is getting it done at the airport once you arrive in country. Forget about the consulate, they don?t know jack and you won?t even get straight answers. I called the consulate several times to get info about obtaining a visa for my wife, and they put me through the automated service, that has the same info as website of Bolivia-usa.org. When I wanted to ask if it?s really and I mean really required to get an invitation written by ?ME? a Bolivian born, inviting my wife traveling with me. The response I got from them was ?YES, YOU NEED ALL DOCUMENTATION STATED IN THE RECORDING?. I did get their visas in the US. We were able to purchase the Visa without any requirements at Immigration at the airport. I recommend you do the same.

Australian tourist visa to Bolivia
by: BoliviaBella

I'm not Australian, and I'm not an expert on the subject of visas, but the Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website has 3 lists of countries that do and do not need tourist visas.

Australia is in Group 1 - Countries that do not need a tourist visa to travel to Bolivia. See it here:

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d43.htm

However, it's advisable to call a Bolivian consulate in the U.S. since you are there, to verify if this is current - because the date on their website says 31/10/2007.

Also, you would want to ask them how long you can stay in Bolivia and still be considered a tourist. For many countries it's 90 days. Ask them to be sure.

Try the Bolivian Consulate in Washington, D.C.

Contd ...

So I left by that day afternoon from Corrientes and from Buenos Aires in the evening where I should be also thankful to whole Qatar Airways who gave me the boarding that very day on 21 April 2012 when I had return ticket only of 22nd April ... On the 23rd April I arrived to my home place Kathmandu, Nepal ...

Although I'm here in home Kathmandu but still my thoughts and memories are only in Santa Cruz of Bolivia and Resistencia of Argentina ... I hope and I've made myself a decision that next time I'll be there for longer and may be will be staring my own business there so that most of time I'll be spending my time there living there ...
I'm in love with Santa Cruz and Resistencia ... I'd be writing more later and now excited thinking I'll be flying again on July/August ... This time I'd definitely visit BoliviaBella office with the souveniers from Nepal ...

From Bolivia to Argentina
by: Anonymous

I enjoyed too much and my friends that I made in Santa Cruz were like my family members-sister whom I could tust ... After staying in Santa Cruz for about two weeks I went to Yacuiba which is the small city of Bolivia bordering to Argentina Salvador Mazza ... Actually I wanted to go to Argentina in when I went to the consulate of Argentine consulate they told me to wait for 10 days and still visa is not for sure that's why I went to Yacuiba as per as my friend and is the member of the BoliviaBella team who is now as my own family member ...

Then I stayed and Yacuiba for about a week because it's also so lovely city I don't know why I liked the people from there but i like to admit it and it's very nice silent place ...

From there when I left hotel with my two local friends to border I was asked that I've to go to the Argentine consulate in Yacuiba but since the Bolivian immigration side already had stamped exit on my Passport I was supposed to apply again for the visa the Bolivian side, but when my friends who were helping me made a request to them ; they afterwards amended on my Passport. Then I went to Argentine consulate in Yacuiba before going back to my hotel. I was told to come by following day.

When I went to the consular that day the consular was there who was so friendly and he gave me visa as a tranit visa for 10 days whden I asked for 3 days ... I still need to thank him and all of the Bolivian friends and The BolivianBella team because without (BolivianBella) team I would never have flied from Nepal ...

I stayed in Resistencia for 10 days in Resistencia
and I don't even come to know that my visa is for 21st April only and I noticed it only by that very day morning . Then I went to office of Aerolineas Argentina then asked to replace my returning ticket of Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Buenos Aires into
Resistencia to Buenos Aires because I've to catch connecting flight of Qatar Airways explaining I'm unable to extend the visa because it's transit visa and to return Santa Cruz or to Bolivian border takes 12+ hours !!! I was lucky that without paying anything in extra he did replaced it making ticket of Corrientes (neighboring city of Resistencia which is 20 KM from Resistencia) ...

Canadian staying too long in Bolivia?

by Anthony
(SCZ, Bolivia)

I am a Canadian who is completing an internship in Bolivia for 4 months, since April 30, 2010. When I came to Bolivia, I was told that I had 90 days to stay in the country. I had planned to stay till July, then take a flight out of the country to Argentina for the weekend, and then head back in to renew the visa.

According to your website, these regulations have changed, and I'm now concerned about my trip. If I understand correctly, I need to renew my visa every 30 days at a charge of $30. Secondly, that if I end up leaving the country, I will be denied re-entry. Thirdly, I absolutely cannot pass more than 90 days here in Bolivia... If this is the case, what should I do? Is my only option to rebook my flight and get out before my 90 days are up?

Thanks!

Anthony

has this been resolved?
by: Anonymous

Hi I am a Canadian currently staying in Cochabamba. I will be overstaying my 90 day tourist visa by a few days, but was told that I can pay. I then planned to leave the country (to visit friends in Brasil) and then return to bolivia for 90 more days. I have heard conflicting information about this.... I was wondering if anyone has concrete information as to whether a Canadian can receive a 2nd tourist visa within the calendar year?

Canadian staying too long in Bolivia
by: BoliviaBella

What we're being told is that people who have entered on a 90-day TOURIST visa are no longer able to cross over the border and come back on another 90-day TOURIST visa because no one is allowed more than 90 days per calendar year.

The VISA DE OBJETO DETERMINADO (specific purpose visa) is the visa people should actually be using to enter the country if they plan to reside here MORE than 90 days. However, it is usually used by people who plan to start their residency request process once they get here.

Unfortunately, this is a problem more and more volunteers are coming up against, especially since they often spend more than 90 days in the country but less than one year and don't really plan or want to be actual residents.

I'm going to ask the English-speaking lawyer who works with us to see what she thinks can be done. I'll send you an email.

Bolivia visa for Thai citizen

by Dalad Harivarawongse
(Bangkok, Thailand)

Dear Sir, I would like to ask you a question about how to get a visa for Bolivia.
I and my husband are citizens of Thailand planning to visit Bolivia on vacation and I have checked that we can get a tourist visa on arrival . However, the information is not confirmed so I would like to double check with you if this is correct or not. That is --can we get visa for Bolivia on arrival or do we have to get visa from the consulate. If we need to get visa from consulate, where and how should we arrange to do that? Since we do not have Bolivia embassy or consulate in Thailand.

I look forward to hearing your advice soon

Thank you and Best Regards,

Tourist visa on arrival for citizens from Thailand
by: BoliviaBella.com

According to the Bolivian government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, citizens of Thailand (Tailandia, in Spanish) do need a tourist visa, but are not required to obtain it prior to arrival - the tourist visa will be issued upon arrival in Bolivia. This is their website. Perhaps it would be a good idea to print out their page and carry it with you.

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d48.htm

This applies ONLY to tourist visas, and not to foreigners who will be moving to Bolivia to seek residency.

You don't need a work visa if you're coming to Bolivia to volunteer. Work visas are for those who are going to be paid to work. You should be OK coming with a tourist visa as long as you get a 90-day tourist visa.

Citizens of China and Iran no Longer Need to Apply for a Tourist Visa Prior to Arrival in Bolivia

According to the Gaceta Oficial de Bolivia, a government publication on new and updated laws, the Bolivian government has announced that citizens of China and Iran no longer need to apply for a tourist visa prior to arriving in Bolivia. A visa will be issued to them at the airport in Bolivia upon arrival. Via Supreme Decree No. 2097, passed on 27 August and published on 05 September, 2014 Bolivia has upgraded Chinese and Iranian citizens from the Group 3 visa group (obtain a visa at a Bolivian consulate in your country prior to traveling to Bolivia) to Group 2 visa group (tourist visa will be issued upon arrival).

This applies to tourist visas only. Citizens of ALL countries wishing to travel to Bolivia to seek residency must still apply for a "visa de objeto determinado" (specific purpose visa) to enter Bolivia.

Visa
by: Grant

I have been through this, and believe me it is a pain in the backside, but if you get organised it will take some stress out of it. Be prepared for lots of paperwork, spending money, and waiting in queues.

As soon as you get to Bolivia on your specific purpose visa, head straight to Interpol as this can take the longest, up to 20 days. Then to FELCC for verification of address. You also need a HIV test.

Plus lots of forms to fill. If you go over the 30 days you will be fined 20Bs per day.

The tourist visa is not an option for you, given your stated plans
by: Anonymous

If you plan to move to Bolivia, reside there and work there, the tourist visa is not an option for you anyway. The tourist visa gives you a maximum of 90 days in Bolivia per calendar year and this is strictly enforced. You may not work under a tourist visa, and you may not request residency if you entered on a tourist visa.

You will have to apply (at the Bolivian consulate in your country) for a visa de objeto determinado (specific purpose visa) to travel to Bolivia, stating that your specific purpose for traveling to Bolivia is to live with your boyfriend, work, and eventually marry.

This visa will cost you $85 in your country but you should be forewarned that, unlike the tourist visa which gives you 90 days to remain in the country, on the SPV you will have only 30 days in Bolivia during which time you must immediately apply for residency. The only way you can legally live and work in Bolivia for one year is to apply for residency.

visas for bulgarians to bolivia
by: Anonymous

Not sure what the fee is, but what I can tell you is that Bulgaria is in Group 2, which means you don't need to get your tourist visa in advance. You will be issued the visa upon arrival.

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d48.htm

Unless you plan to move here to request residency, in which case you have to go to a Bolivian consulate near you and get a Visa de Objeto Determinado (not a tourist visa) and the price for that is $85.

Bolivia Visa Requirements for Danish Citizens

visa form on the way out
by: BoliviaBella.com

Michael is correct about the small portion of the form, which you must retain and show as you leave the country. It's also important you don't lose it because if you want to extend your stay you will need to show it.

Even though citizens of your country are not required to have a visa, the time you are allowed to remain in the country is limited (so that no one can enter on a tourist visa and stay here indefinitely.)

So immigration gives either 30, 60 or 90 days depending on the agreements Bolivia has with other countries (not sure what the agreement is with Denmark) and if you would decide to stay longer, you'd have to request an extension. So don't lose it.

Visa for danske
by: Michael

Hej.
Proceduren er som beskrevet ovefor. Husk dit pas skal være gyldigt min 6 mdr efter udrejse af Bolivia. Du udfylder typisk immigrations formular(grøn) inden man kommer til feks lufthavnen. Udleveres i flyet. Den nederste del af formularen med dato og stempel udleveres til dig igen. Husk at gemme denne. Skal bruges ved udrejse af Bolivia.
ER der flere spm. så skriv endelig.

UK tourist visa for Bolivia
by: BoliviaBella

The latest information available on the Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website is that UK citizens are in Group 1 for visas - a group that does not need a visa to enter Bolivia:

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d43.htm

Your country would be (in Spanish) REINO UNIDO DE
GRAN BRETAÑA E IRLANDA DEL NORTE on this list.

To be 100% sure, you might consider contacting the Bolivian embassy or consulate nearest you:

cyprus needs a visa, greece does not
by: Anonymous

I called the Immigration Office (Migración) in Santa Cruz, Bolivia for you. Citizens of Cyprus do need a tourist visa, but you will be given the visa when you arrive at the airport in Bolivia. The cost is $135 and it allows you up to 30 days in Bolivia.

They told me that your wife, who is from Greece, does NOT need a tourist visa at all. The website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also lists Greece as a country which does not require a visa here:

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d43.htm

This is the information I was given today at 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, 11 May 2011. The phone number for the Immigration Office in Santa Cruz, Bolivia is (591-3) 351-9574

visa complications
by: Anonymous

Unfortunately, this is a problem that many many many foreigners are running into. They get different information from different authorities.

In the case of tourist visas, each country individually has treaties with Bolivia about tourism so residents of some countries need a tourist visa to visit Bolivia, others don't.

In the case of people who are moving to Bolivia to request residency there is no distinction. In that case EVERYONE needs a visa and it's a different visa called a "visa de objeto determinado" (specific purpose visa).

Are you coming as a tourist or are you planning to request residency in Bolivia?

visa complicated
by: Anonymous

hello. again!
i called the embassy of bolivia in italy(closer to me) and they told me that i definetely need visa before i arrive in lapaz and that, if i do not have the visa before i live, maybe the airline company will not let me get in the aeroplane.....
so i called the embassy of bolivia in london, just to check, and they confirmed me that i dont need a visa, i only need a permit, that i will take it upon my arrival in lapaz....

so, 2 different ambassys of bolivia in rome and london, they say different things....

i find it very complicated and i dont know why, i have been to samy places and i never had an issue with the visas...

what do you think?

cyprus citizens get bolivian visa at airport
by: Anonymous

According to the Bolivian government website, citizens of Cyprus (Chipre, in Spanish) do need a visa to enter Bolivia, but don't need to get it prior to travel. This generally means you will be given your visa upon arrival at the airport. See this page:

http://www.rree.gob.bo/webmre/documentos/servicios/d48.htm

Contacts for Bolivian Consulate in India
by: Anonymous

You can contact them by phone, fax, or email. Normally the consulate will instruct you the paperwork to send them (by registered mail). Then they will do your paperwork and return it to you by mail.

Ask them what is the process and what they want you to do.

Visa question from a Volunteer for 5 months from Hong Kong

by chris
(hong kong)

Hi, I'm from Hong Kong, part of China but different, looking for the opportunities to volunteer in Bolivia. I doubt if helping at an eco-village counts as "volunteer work", although i will not be making a profit.

Is the specific purpose visa required for the period around 4-6 months? Since the visa region I belonged to is Group 3.

Volunteer in Bolivia from the UK
by: BoliviaBella

Since you are only coming for 2 weeks you will most likely just need the tourist visa (but you might wish to ask just in case). You need to process this visa in the UK at the nearest Bolivian consulate. I think there is no Bolivian consulate, only a Bolivian embassy in London. Here's their contact information (I found it at www.embassiesabroad.com):
