Hiking the Road of Death???

I am not a great bicycle rider and therefore would not want to try to bicycle this road. But hiking maybe??? Has anyone ever hiked the road? Some basic questions:

1) Can or has it be done?
2) Can it be done in February?
3) About 90 kilometers?
4) Did you take full camping gear or could it be done with just sleeping bag and food not to be cooked?
