The Jesuit missions are towns that were established hundreds of years ago by European Catholic priests intent upon converting the indigenous peoples of this region to Catholicism. Today it is possible to see the enormous, beautiful temples built, carved and painted by hand in wood, where inhabitants were taught to play baroque music and instruments, to read and write, to paint and carve, and more.
