Planning to visit in Oct to determine what area to move to retire/volunteer a year or so. Do I get tourist or specific purpose visa?

Desire small town close to Cochabamba.

potential

thanks Rod,

Though my plan is for retirement I know that I will seek some sort of employment to keep me active.
Have worked in social services most of my life but have skills in other areas also.

Will be spending 3 weeks in oct nov and look to explore Cochobomba, Sucre and Tarija.

Wanting to find a base with to explore the country for the first year then make a better informed choice of how and where my time is spent.

Visit advice

Judging by your question, you are not committed to retiring to Bolivia or moving here in the long term.
A visitor's visa normally lasts for 30 days but can be extended I believe twice to give you the potential of 90 days in total.
By all means come and look around, meet the people and see the sights. I suggest that even in 90 days you will only scratch the surface of life, culture and of course politics so you should be looking for "potential". What do you want to do if you retire here? Will life be exciting enough? What sort of property might you look for and where?
I worked in Santa Cruz for a year and during that time visited high and low, far and wide. One week after my retirement I arrived here with the full intention of making Santa Cruz my home. I have now lived here for over 7 years and have had no regrets. But that's me. You need to decide for yourself!
